Deadline for abstract submission: 31 July 2016.
Deadline for Registration: 15 September 2016.


NATO-STO Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation (La Spezia, Italy)


Attendance is limited to the nationals of the 28 member countries of NATO. Participants from the military, government, academia and industry communities are welcome to either attend or contribute to the 3rd WMAUGT 2016. The number of participants is limited to 50, to fit the length and the intended depth of the meeting.

Theme and Topics:

The event is designed for military and civilian personnel who seek to extend their expertise to new robotic technology for sea surveillance and characterization, and for scientists and engineers interested in how this technology can address challenges in present naval warfare.

The workshop will be based on case studies with gliders including:

  • Environmental characterization of denied areas
  • Novel payloads and capabilities for underwater gliders
  • Passive detection and localization of acoustic sources
  • Sustained monitoring and surveillance of marine regions
  • Glider operation in high north
  • Underwater glider network
  • Future integration of glider fleets in naval operations


All presentations for the workshop will be classified up to NATO UNCLASSIFIED security level.
